I think many of these reviews are about other hotels, not the Acamaya Reef. There are no pools here. No activities (other than lying in a hammock). In short it is a --dive--. You must see it to believe it. Sort of a --Tropical Sanford & Sons-- Good luck.

We stayed here from Mar 01-08/2005. We had a fabulous time. If you are looking for a posh hotel room, this is not the place to go. But if you are looking for pure rest and relaxation Acamaya would be the place. Sure you have to be careful to order a double deluxe in order to get a cabana with a bathroom, but the fact that we didn't have a phone, TV or radio is not why we went in the first place. The beach and the scenery were all that really mattered.

Acamaya Reef is definitely not --beautiful-- as one reviewer said. I wish I could post pictures of the place as it really appears. The pictures you see above are quite misleading. It mostly consists of a very large parking lot for --get this-- RVs! Our traveling companions could not stay in their room because when they went to drop their luggage there were ants everywhere, crawling just above the bed. And that room was $47, and did not include a bathroom -- toilet and showers are a group affair, with no designation for men/women. The place is very unappealing and overpriced. The proprietor generously gave us one of their special rooms b/c we were angry that the rooms had no bathrooms. The room boasts of a TV, but when you turn it on, you discover it gets only one channel. The view out the window is of the RV park that is their parking lot.

I want to give my opinion about this hotel and about the first comment that is in your page: first of all, this hotel does not have guards, they never prohibit from bringing things inside the hotel. I think the person that wrote that negative comment made a mistake about the hotel. Maybe he means another hotel and not Acamaya Reef Hotel. This little hotel is held by a family and they take care of the hotel and the customers; so I hope my comments help to take that negative comments away, thanks.

Acamaya Reef was terrible, I was straight up robbed by the security guards, was treated horribly, was prohibited from bringing in things. Cancun is a wonderful experience but this hotel made my whole vacation worse... I would not recommend ever going here.

Relax, we had looked over the reviews for Acamaya Reef after making reservations and considered canceling our plans. Glad we went - yes, some of the negatives you see are true - BUT we had NO problems and I was very concerned going into the week. The service was absolutely fine - the hotel was beautiful, many activities for small kids and older ones as well - we had children with us from 4 to 19. Great pools and beach - always shuttles at night - sometimes to shopping, sometimes to bars and restaurants. Yes, there probably is better but go for it - the price is GREAT and it's worth every dime. Only thing I did not like was the windows do not open and no fresh air. I had read about theft so we got a safe the first day - only $3.20 a day - NO PROBLEMS. We went 3/28/04-4/1/04 - GREAT TIME.
