We were at the Akumal Beach resort from June 27 to July 1, 2005. This was an excellent resort. We did have a superior room. Very nice accommodations. The animation staff here was wonderful and were always very friendly and inviting. The beach at this resort is absolutely gorgeous. Short walk down the beach to the little town of Akumal. While we did not have any young children along they do have a children’s activities program. This was an excellent resort and we would not hesitate to go back on our next visit to the Yucatan Peninsula. The food wasn't terrific but definitely plenty of satisfying foods to keep you full.

We were at Akumal Beach Resort in May of 2005 and had a great time. We had a superior room, very clean and nice set up, shower stall on room was excellent. Food was good most of the time always found something we liked, lots of fruit, fish and salad. Staff was very friendly. The high point is the beach and snorkeling. The water and beach area is very clean and the sea life is excellent. We saw stingrays, white ones and the regular ones, lots of sea turtles and tons of all colored fish. We loved the short walk into Akumal and purchased most of our gifts from there. Te shows were not very good but there was a lot of activities for those who wanted to get involved. We went to relax and that is exactly what we did. It was wonderful and we are planning to go back next year. We didn't have any problems with staff or service, the resort is lovely and peaceful. Great place to relax!

Amazing. All the staff was gentle and very nice. It was a very quiet hotel, perfect for vacation. The food was excellent, especially the breakfast. So, thank you all, I’ll be back to Akumal Beach soon.

Beautiful white paradise beaches with clear waters. Weather very hot. Hotel Akumal Beach Resort (thought not 5 star) is very nice, very clean and right on the beach. Clean heated pool also. Staff very friendly & helpful. Food very good. Drink & snack food always available. Plenty of excursions if you are wanting to do more. Nightlife in nearby town of Playa del Carmen. Get superior rooms, as standard rooms are not up to scratch. Not really for children; for couples looking for a relaxing holiday - its a complete paradise.

Excellent hotel, good atmosphere.. although family oriented, the Akumal Beach Resort is good for honey mooners. We recommend it.

Just returned yesterday from Akumal Beach Resort and thought Id chime in with a review. First, the beach is the whole reason you want to stay at this resort... it is long and stunning! You can swim out and snorkel right from the resort and see some pretty decent things, we saw a sea turtle and some very unusual fish. The rooms were adequate and clean, a wonderful shower and big closet. Access to potable drinking water was ample, with coolers set out at every building. Now, the food. It was most certainly edible but not all that great... and it was surprisingly bad on --Mexican Night-- in the main restaurant. The Italian restaurant was fabulous and the Mexican restaurant was okay, you must try Mexican and Mayan coffees whenever offered! The nightlife was nonexistent, drinks at the beach bar after dinner then a pretty awful show at the theater and then a disco 3 nights per week. We never made it to the disco because the waiting was so boring! Many Europeans, mostly Italians, which gave the place a more exotic feel... not a ton of beer guzzling American frat boys throwing up everywhere. I felt that I might have gotten better service if I was Italian but, all in all, I thought the service was pretty good. A decent place to stay if its all you can afford (thats how it was for me!) but I would probably go elsewhere if I had more money to spend.

The Akumal Beach Resort is a resort for nature lovers that like nice food and relax time... Europeans mainly Italians… great action … rustic style hotel… best snorkeling around.

Just returned from Akumal Beach Resort just a great vacation all around, Food, Room Service, Bars, Restaurants, Maids, Maintenance, everyone very pleasant and polite. Wrist bands only so they know how to communicate with you and not speak a foreign language. Great vacation, great place.

I really liked this place: the beach is fabulous, the rooms clean and the service quite ok. It is not the best place for people who like action holidays, but rather the ones who like to lay on the beach, go to bed early and to relax. The hotel Akumal Beach Resort is nothing extraordinary but really OK. The staff seemed very relaxed what contributed to the relaxed atmosphere. By the way: if you say that you have an allergy, then you do not have to carry the wrist band. It is enough to carry it in your pocket.

We just returned from the Akumal Beach Resort and it was terrible. The guests are segregated with colored wrist bands, yellow if you are English, blue for Germans red for Italians etc. If you were not wearing a red band you were treated as second rate. This resort is owned by Italians and caters to them. We had troubles getting drinks, the food was terrible and the Italian service staff were rude. We will never go back here again and neither will many of the other guests we spoke to while we were there.

We have just returned from a fabulous holiday at the Akumal Beach Resort. The rooms were simple but very clean, the food was excellent, the beach is gorgeous and the snorkeling over the coral reef in the bay is amazing - tuna, barracuda, sting ray and sea turtles among many other fish. We could not fault the service or the staff and would recommend this quiet resort to any one.

We stayed at the Akumal Beach Resort Jan.30, 2003, we hated it. The rooms were disgusting, my kids asked why the rooms smelled like pooh!!! The Italian staff catered to Italians only. My son cut his toe on their beach, received 7 stitches, hotel management didnt offer apologies. We will never go back!! Pay the extra money and go to a better resort.

We loved the Akumal Beach Resort... if you dont mind a simple down to earth place filled with easy going friendly staff... good food and drinks and the best beach... the Italians are a special treat... staff and other guests... we will return if the same tour company runs the resort next year.
