Hotel info:

The most striking quality of this idyllic resort is the breathtaking, panoramic vista of the crystalline waters and coral reef that surround them, reflecting off of one of the whitest beaches in all of Mexico.

The hotel Avalon Reef Isla Mujeres is actually situated on a private, tiny islet connected to the mainland of Isla Mujeres by a lengthy pier. The surrounding sea is truly pristine, with vivid shades of blues and greens influenced by the reef. Rock formations along a small portion of the shoreline have created an amazing, perfectly-formed ocean 'swimming pool'.

There are 79 guest rooms with queen sized bed, two bedroom condo suites with jacuzzis and 55 studios, one and two bedroom villas at the Avalon Reef Club Villas, all with sweeping views of the Caribbean on three sides. All provide a terrace, living area and kitchenette with toaster, refrigerator, microwave, a living room with sofa bed and dining room.

The all-inclusive plan features: All meals (excluding Porter House Grill). Late night snack menu. Domestic and Premium drinks (available at selected bars). Non motorized water sports sponsored by Bluewater Adventures. Bicycles. Entertainment. Limitations & Extra Charges: Spa, Laundry and Dry cleaning, and phone calls.

I love the Avalon Reef Club, My husband and I got married there last year it was beautiful. It is not a flashy expensive hotel, but more of a down home comfortable resort. They may not be real fancy but it's beautiful. Breakfast on the deck right next to the blue ocean. Sunsets are magnificent, there are two hammocks, the kings bath has a wooden pathway that goes to it very safe. Service is great if you are respectful. I own a time share 1 bedroom and plan on bringing all my friends to enjoy. I'm laid back and grateful for the beauty of Mexico so maybe my expectations aren't as high as others, I'm not sure but I just love it there. Gone once a year in December for the last 6 years. The hurricane did affect most areas but most areas have done their best to accommodate all of us travelers. Keep an open mind and slow down and enjoy the beauty.

The most breathtaking view I have ever experienced. The most amazing moonlight I have ever seen. Avalon Reef is a place you would definitely come back to. I know I will.

The Avalon Reef Resort is not as they advertise. This is a 3 to a 4 star resort at best. Just got back on 4/14/05 and am very disappointed. The resort had no onsite golf carts to rent; you could pay for one at the resort but had to walk into downtown area to get the cart. They had 2 worn out bicycles for the entire resort to use. The food was average at best and not a lot of selection. The snorkeling gear they provide was Wal-Mart quality and they only allowed you to use it for 1.5 hrs. Bring your own volleyball if you want to play because they never could find one. They have no hammocks. The Kings Bath has no way to it other than to climb over a fence and walk over very sharp jagged rocks for about 50 yds. I do a lot of hiking and I can tell you this was tricky and dangerous. If you slip and fall on these jagged boulders you most likely will need a trip to the hospital. Wear tight fitting shoes if you attempt it. They do not have enough chairs and lounges to accommodate everyone! ----- The sandy beach has as many rocks in as it does sand. Standard room is very small. The nightclub was closed most of the nights we were there. Now for the service or lack of: Bartenders and servers ignore you for the most part. My first time at the bar, the bartender looked up at me then walked off and started doing something else. During our stay I noticed this same attitude toward most of the guests. Then I realized why. THEY WANT YOU TO BUY A TIME SHARE! Certain people wear a different color arm band, yellow, ours were light blue. People with the yellow wrist bands had showed interest in the time shares and they were treated noticeably better than the rest of us. Minimal effort was put forth by the staff. ----- To top it all off when we left they failed to tell us that our flight was going to be delayed for over 5 hours. We discovered this during check in at the airport. When we called the hotel from the airport they told us that we should have told them we wanted a flight confirmation before we left and that there was nothing they could do for us. This is really unbelievable because other people who were on our return flight told us that there resorts stopped them at the front desk during checkout and informed them of the situation and extended there time at the resort until the flight arrived. The Avalon just left us at the airport to fend for ourselves. I do not recommend nor will I return here.
