Water on floor in bathroom. No air conditioner. No service. Noise all night. No beach.

I was in Playa del Carmen in April of 2003 and had the pleasure of staying at Caracol Village. It was the best vacation I've ever had! The area is beautiful and the locals are so nice. The resort was excellent! I had no problems with towels as Elda did. The staff was so nice and went out of their way to help us. There were some nights that the food wasn't that great, but that can happen anywhere! I also had the pleasure of going to Xel-Ha, that was the coolest place that I've ever been too. I highly recommend it to anyone planning a visit to Playa or Cancun. I have nothing but great things to say about this hotel! I hope to be able to vacation there again in the future, and I would love to have my honeymoon there once I'm married!

Caracol Village is the hotel where I have received the worst service in the world! It took me more than half an hour to check in even though I have made my reservation previously. The hotel wanted to charge me twice even though I had already paid my entire bill. The barman didn't serve me what I asked but what he wanted. The rooms were dirty, full of insects and there were only salty water in the shower. They offered me an ocean-view room and the truth is that I only obtained a room with view to the exterior (not to an aisle). We couldn't get in the restaurants because we haven't made reservations before 9:00 AM, even though we have just arrived, it was an all-inclusive and the restaurant was empty! Can you believe it? The food was horrible. And the manager was never available to receive my claims.

We have just spent a week at the Caracol Village and would certainly never go back. The room had dirty sheets and a toilet which didn’t flush; it took them 2 days to sort out a room change for us. The food was basic and the general standard wasn't good. On a plus point the setting is lovely and the outside drinking areas are nice. There must be better hotels to stay at than this one.

My friend and I went to Caracol Village hotel in April 2003 and liked it so much we planned another trip for January 2004. This time we spent more time in Playa Del Carmen at night time, as the disco was not much fun. The activity staff was awesome and the coffee bar was fabulous. Rafael was great!

This is a reaction from a girl of fifteen years, so you can read the reaction from a younger person. This was the best vacation I’ve ever been on. The people who worked in Caracol Village were very friendly and everything was clean. There was enough to do for everyone of every age. You can have a lot of pleasure there; it's a great hotel!

We completely disagree with Elda. Caracol Village was absolutely fantastic. We went there in 1999 for our Honeymoon and enjoyed every minute of it. In fact we are celebrating our 5th anniversary right now and have been looking at going back there which has brought us CancunSmart.

The time I spend there was the best time of my life. Caracol Village is really clean and the food is very good. There was a great animation team. You could do lots of things all day long and in the evening there was a nice show. I really recommend you to go to Caracol Village.

After having spent 8 days 7 nights at Caracol Village, I would have to highly disagree with Elda from Edmonton. She needs not vacation in Playa. Go to the Ritz Carlton in Cancun… I’m sure they'll have plenty of hand towels! My family & I had a great time at Caracol. Yes, there is room for improvement as there is anywhere! Just remember "you make the most out of your vacation" If you have a negative attitude from the start ... stay home! If you're open minded then Caracol is for you. I won't bore you with details about not having hand towels, however, I will give you a few tips on what to pack: *Water Shoes there is about 30 feet of rocks in the ocean before you hit the rock free area.*Bug spray there are mosquitoes at night. *Citronella candle for your room. There can be a few mosquitoes that sneak in your room. *A flashlight for night beach walking. *Sunscreen with a SPF of 70 we are from Texas and by day 4 we were baked.*About 50 dollars in ones. The bartenders will remember you & give you excellent service. *Learn some conversational Spanish & use it! The staff will remember you & you will be taken care of should you have a problem.*If your wife or daughter want the braids (you’ll know what I'm talking about when you get there), get them in Playa Del Carmen, they're cheaper.*Most importantly, have a good attitude & remain positive! Life is too short, have fun!

I do not understand how people can say their holiday at Caracol Village was wonderful. If it wasn't for the people we were traveling with it would of been a disaster. Do people use towels in Mexico, apparently not. Not even a facecloth or hand towel was to be had. We waited at the reception area until they produced 2 towels. They do not use hand or face towels and I refuse to go on a holiday to use toilet paper to wipe my hands. The food was average, a good variety, although if you decided to go a little later than 6 p.m. . tables were not cleaned and food was not replaced. Coffee in the morning was absent many times. We usually went at 9 a.m. and again I refuse to be up at 6 a.m. to have a cup of coffee and if the coffee was there the milk wasn't. The beach was not tidied up at night so in the morning there was garbage and cigarette butts everywhere. I don't know about people but I pay good money for my trips and I expect to be treated that way.

Just returned from 2 marvelous weeks at Caracol Village, Jan. 15 to 29, 2004. I dont know what other people are complaining about; the staff were wonderful; rooms and grounds very clean; animation/activity staff were energetic and entertaining and service was generally above average, food was good but repetitive (after a week, it all looks and tastes the same, but you expect that from an all inclusive), bar staff extremely accommodating, especially in the Lobby Bar where Julio, Nelly and Rachel provided not only excellent service but a terrific sense of humor. Bugs..... well, being in the middle of a jungle, I guess you can expect a few but they fogged every evening with apparently great results. If you want a balcony you can sit on, ask for the 3rd floor, as the rest are mainly a place for staff to clean windows from. Also, although we were 3 in our room, towel service could did not seem to understand that and consistently left 2 towels. Watch your step on the wooden bridges and walkways (uneven with numerous people injuring themselves). All and all, when comparing prices, accommodation and services, this holiday was very good value for money spent!

Eight of us were at Caracol Village from Jan. 2 to 16, 2004 and we had a most marvelous time. The food was awesome, the theme nights wonderful, the a la carte restaurants impressive, especially La Riviera, the kids never complained and were always eating (just like at home). The Activity Staff, especially Melena (Kids Club Coordinator) were incredible. We were active all day long, different sports, activities. Some days we did not see the kids all day long (two kids eight years old and two kids 10 years old). Melena even babysat one evening so that we could go into Playa Del Carmen and have an "adult" dinner and a few tequilas! Way too much fun! This vacation was the best place we have been to and we have been to Mexico seven times. Thanks a lot Caracol - we WILL be back.

I totally disagree with people that say Caracol Village is terrible. We had 2 very pleasant weeks there at the beginning of November 03. Service, food, facilities and entertainment were excellent. Staff was very friendly and luckily for us most could speak sufficient English and were very helpful. I suppose if you want a clinical holiday venue this is not for you, go to an American run resort. Caracol was totally relaxing, and an ideal place to get away from the rat race and recharge the batteries. Situated in the jungle but on a beach was superb. Ok it is a rough road to access the site, but in the time there we only traveled it a few times. I would love to go back again.

How can people say Caracol Village was bad!!? This hotel was the best!! Entertainment team were great.. Good Shows.. Very friendly.. Great food.. Excellent sport. And people complaining about the road.. ITS A ROAD!! You dont go down it much! Yeh.. The rooms were basic but you dont go on holiday to sit in your room all day!! More mosquitoes than expected.. So take loads of repellent.. But thats what you get when living in the jungle. Playa Del Carmen isnt the best place to shop.. There are a few shops, and they are all really expensive.. For shopping go to Cancun.. Unfortunately we didnt make it there but it sounds wicked! We would definitely go back and its recommended for ALL ages.. Have a good holiday!! :)

Caracol Village is a secluded romantic resort with a wilderness flavor. I was there January 2002. Great hospitality great staff, great food.

Caracol Village was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. No working toilets and no working a/c. Go somewhere else.

This was the worst resort I have ever been to in Mexico. The food was so deplorable, I couldnt even eat it. We had to go to town just to find edible food. Dont waste your money at Caracol Village, go somewhere else.

The best vacation. Great Kids club! Wonderful staff, and evening shows. Caracol Village is a great 3 1/2 star resort. Not very crowded.

Hotel Caracol Village is a great place to stay. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The evening show is really great. If you go there say Hello to Alex and Kendra from Marcel and Alma. They are on the animation team. The beach is a bit rocky but the waters are great.

I am at Caracol Village now. It is a very nice place. It is not a large hotel but a collection of small houses. Fantastic!
