My husband and I went here for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! We are already making plans to go back soon. The food was wonderful with lots of choices. The pool was beautiful (don't miss the upstairs pool with the swim up bar). The resort was very clean. The staff was always helpful. We would highly recommend visiting Gran Porto Real!!

My husband and I spent two weeks at Gran Porto Real. Everything from the staff, accommodations and food were fantastic. The staff is friendly and always helpful. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Our room was facing the Royal Porto Real but was still quiet. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Playa del Carmen.

Just got back from 2 weeks in Gran Porto Real. They tried to allocate a room overlooking a major building site at side of hotel (no excessive noise but not nice to look at), after complaining moved to an ocean view room which was excellent. Food and staff are excellent, cleanliness of our room and all public places was also excellent. Location of hotel is unbeatable being on beach and very close to 5th Ave. shopping /bars etc. Buffet restaurant takes some beating for quality and choice except not many non smoking tables. Overall fantastic holiday. No noise .

I just got back from Gran Porto Real with my sister, brother in law, 4 year old niece, other nephews and nieces (4 college students), and my two kids(10 and 14)and we all had such a wonderful time. We hated to leave and some of us felt sad when it was time to go. It was like leaving behind friends and home. We are already planning on coming back next summer and staying longer. The best part was the food and the people were all so sweet and amicable especially the entertainment team. It was worth the price and I would definitely go back. The beach could have been nicer without all the fishing boats parked along the shore but we still made the most of it.

The hotel Porto Real is amazing and so are the people. In fact, I just got back from staying there for a week. It is and was so nice! You can lay by the pool with the beach behind you and the beach IS beautiful. There is plenty to do and plenty to see.

I would not recommend the Gran Porto Real to my worst enemy! There are many, many beautiful smaller hotels in Playa and many, many other all-inclusives. The overbooking is unscrupulous. They will put you in a room overlooking a construction site and not care one bit. Trust me. Don't go.

We stayed for a week in October 2004 at Gran Porto Real. We had been two times previously (in 2002 and 2001) and loved it. However, upon arrival this year, we noted that the beach is having major problems. They have poles sticking up in the beach all along the front of the property line and huge mesh boxes all over the beach (don't know what is going on....) The beach was a huge disappointment - for 7 days, we laid out by the pool (I can do that at home!!!). Anyway, just make sure before you go, that the beach is --fixed-- or whatever. It was a huge disappointment, especially since we brought two other families with us this time. We felt bad they didn't get to enjoy the beach.

My husband brought me to Gran Porto Real for our Honeymoon in Oct. 2003. It was amazing! We were very pleased with the service and I thought the hotel was the most beautiful I'd ever stayed in!

Gran Porto Real was the best of the best, we stayed here March 23rd-March 30th, and that wasn't long enough, so next year were thinking about 2 weeks! The service in very friendly and the food is just excellent; the waiters are fast, and very polite! The only terrible thing about it was leaving! Gran Porto Real is the place to go! It was a 5 star resort! :) !!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Gran Porto Real in May 2003 for two weeks and it was amazing!!! We have been to Cancun 6 times before. Playa Del Carmen is much more relaxed. This is the BEST hotel anywhere! We are going back the end of Nov. for 11 days for our anniversary. You cant beat the service, the food, the friendly staff or the OCEANFRONT rooms, our balcony was no more than 30 feet from the water.

We have stayed at the Gran Porto Real 3 times and the last time we paid in advance for a junior suite, ocean view. Upon our arrival, I was told that we had paid for a garden view and that the OV would cost an extra $50.00 a day. And I had my confirmation in my hand... I do have to say however, this hotel is quite nice...great location...wonderful beach and pool area. Good food and close to the walking mall... Love the area and the resort, but things arent as good as they used to be unfortunately.

I have stayed at the Gran Porto Real twice, once in Mar. 01 and the other time in Jan 03 and both times were amazing . From the friendly service of the staff to the amazing view of the turquoise waters and the location to fifth ave. separates this hotel from all competitors. The all-inclusive option is the only way to go, I have never in my life had someone come out into the water to take my order. I have also done the European plan and this is ok if you want to try different restaurants on fifth ave. but just be cautious of the --revenge.-- All in all I would not stay anyone where else, and would recommend this hotel to couples, families or the business traveler. I do apologize for the people who encountered overbooking problems or did not have a good stay but sometimes those things just happen.

We stayed at Gran Porto Real Jan of 2002 with our 3 small children. We loved it. The hotel is beautiful and the staff was great. We also loved the food. You can eat any thing you want with all the different varieties of food. I do recommend the highest floor for the best view. We were on the third floor and were obstructed with palm trees. You can eat any time of day and they bring you lunch right on the beach or by the beautiful pool. Highly recommended.

We spent 4 days at the Gran Porto Real September of 2002. Loved it! Stayed on the --back side-- of the hotel over the little pool. We were told that is was not ocean view - wrong! Maybe not ocean front but the view was fine from our balcony. Hot water in the shower, Air conditioning that froze us out. Sure, no Air anywhere else in the hotel. All the restaurants were open air (as is almost every restaurant in town) and sure cats wandered through while you ate. Am in the process of scheduling another stay at the Gran Porto but longer this time. All inclusive is about $7 per day per person more - the only way to go. I heard all sorts of negative comments, so if you dont have just a bit of adventure in you then go to Branson MO!
