My family and I just got back from staying at the Gran Melia Cancun (9/24-10/1). If you like a room w/the ants and roaches then this is the place for you!! The hotel itself is beautiful from the outside. The lobby is very pretty and tropical like. But when it came down to the rooms they are in need of some renovations. The kitch cab and counter top were old and dirty. I had to sanitize everything. I couldn't leave anything on the counter or in the cabinets because I was afraid the ants or roaches would take over. I cannot tell you how many roaches and ants I killed. We did have a great view from our balconies of the beach and pool. The maids do not respect the “Do Not Disturb” signs. They still knocked on our doors. The air conditioner in the bedroom leaked. There were leaks in the ceiling in the hallways. We had to step around towels that were used to soak up the leaking water. The pools were great. Other than that Cancun was great!

Overall, the hotel Melia Cancun is very impressive but I think management needs to make some major improvements. The week that we were there it rained and there were several leaks all around the hotel. We had two rooms. One morning we woke up to a major leak with the AC, we had water all over inside the room. The second room was falling apart; the door to the balcony was broken, the AC was not working and there was mold all around the vents and it smelled bad. We changed to another room and the bathroom smelled so bad my kids had to close the door. We did not change again since we had only a couple of days left on our vacation. The hotel is beautiful and service is good but I don't think I'll come back to this hotel again.

Service very slow especially if you wore the inclusive bracelet . Besides that, the Gran Melia was the best resort I have been to. Believe it or not my wife and children agree! Menu food was fantastic and had the best lobster every afternoon. Considering the local eateries were so expensive, this the best all-inclusive deal around. We like to try something new each year but we're coming back here. P.S. Build more covered huts.

Check in was a disaster at the Gran Melia Cancun: tried to charge extra $50/nite for 16 yr old. Had to sign promissory voucher to get into room. Eventually resolved w/expedia after 3 hr tele call. Beware of timeshare sales people.. Service at pool bar very slow, drinks watery... Food overrated. Always appeared to have a line at the breakfast buffet. Access to/from street via stairs is a stress test. Only 1 instance of elevator being stuck.. Room a/c overflowed down mirror onto floor. Very slippery when wet. Fixed same day... Ocean swimming at own risk due to undertow. Get to pool early for chairs.. Hotel is physically impressive.. Atrium is awesome. Pools are pretty. But will not return.

We stayed in December 2004 at the Melia Cancun. The view, room, staff and the service was great. Let us tell you. You have to get a massage, they set you up on the beach and what a great way to relieve tension. I can tell you the drinks taste better without stressed muscles. It's a must to return again, again and again.

We stayed at the Melia Cancun because the Omni over-booked and did not honor our reservation the first night. It was beautiful and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Just returned from a 1-week stay (Jan 28 - Feb 4) at the wonderful Gran Melia Cancun. We were fortunate to utilize the Royal Service EP option and couldn't have been happier. The food was very good the service was 1st class and the staff was very friendly and helpful to any need. Our room was immaculate and housekeeping kept it that way throughout our entire stay. The only conclusion that I can come to after reading some of the negative reviews is that there are just some people who no matter what you do they are not happy. I would highly recommend this resort keeping in mind that you are a visitor in another country whose habits and customs are a little more laid back. We will return for another stay here.

I stayed at the Gran Melia in December of 2003. I would highly recommend it!! The service was wonderful and all staff was very gracious. The food is pricey, but it’s excellent. I would recommend this hotel and have to all my friends and family. Its definitely worth it. Any of the hotels have the time-share people, you just have to deal with it.

Let me say that the Melia Cancun is one the most beautiful hotels you and your family ever going to stay. I recommend getting an all-inclusive package like I did. I agree, the food can be pricey, but hey, you don't have to eat at hotel. There are many local restaurants near by, including a McDonald. Transportation is very easy to get around. Make sure you get the lagoon side of the pyramid, never mind the beach side. You're going to witness the most spectacular sunsets. As for the salespersons, didn't encounter any problem, so can't speak on subject. Had such a great time, returning back next year.

My family stayed for a week last year at Gran Melia Cancun and I’m currently online to book another week this year. I stumbled on this site and was infuriated by the negative comments. The hotel was beautiful. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant and it was probably one of the best family vacations we've ever had. We're going back! To those who think it's pricey - go to the Best Western.

Gran Melia Cancun was the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The service was excellent at all of the restaurants. The food was great! A little pricey but worth every penny.

If you don’t mind paying $250 or more per night only to be hounded and chased by Gran Melia Cancun time share sales personnel (they are located at every entrance, exit, every floor outside every place that the elevator can open. And on either side of the only exit from the hotel which leads out to the pool. In short, you cannot escape them and they will eventually get downright pushy, rude and yes...even obnoxious). I would encourage you to read all the reviews before booking anything with the Melia name on it.

I went and stayed in Gran Melia Cancun December of 2003. We had a great time and relaxed. The service was great. They planned everything for us.

On August of last year, me and my family spent four days in Gran Melia Cancun and we had a great experience. I plan to be back on April of 2004. I will recommend it to everybody.

Yes, the pictures are outdated, I went in December 2002, hotel Gran Melia Cancun was great, service very good, I will go back. Really big inground pools (really big), they also added onto to hotel.

Came to the Gran Melia Cancun in August of 2001, and loved it. Beautiful hotel, water, everything. Best hotel I have ever seen! If you come to Cancun, stay here!

I have not been back there since 1998. My wife and I purchased a club share at Gran Melia Cancun. Obviously, we liked it very much!

Gran Melia Cancun is a must see hotel. The pictures on this site are outdated as they have changed quite a bit, for the better. I went 8-02. Everything about it was utterly amazing.
