We stayed at Reef Club Cozumel July 1 for 7 days and we were shocked: flies everywhere, we went to ride horses and saw fewer flies. The staff is rude. Management none existing. Rooms small and dirty, food forget it, everyone there complained; if you can find a piece of food with no flies on it you are lucky. Liquor watered down, beach dirty never raked. Entertainment cheesy, geared for 6-years-old. Save your money and go to El Presidente or somewhere else. I swear this place is the worst.

We just returned from a week at the Reef Club Cozumel. It is great for a 3rd world country! When we were in Europe, we did NOT have screens on the windows, a ceiling fan, air conditioning, ice cubes, hot water, etc. Here, we had all that. It was a good 3 star hotel (typical Best Western, Holiday Inn style), and I've stayed in many Holiday Inn rooms not as nice. The rooms were as clean as the states, the food was good. Yes, on a Mexican island in the Caribbean, you will find fish and Mexican food! But you have access to an acceptable cheeseburger from 10 a.m. until 2 a.m. We never went hungry, tried some new things, and met a lot of new people. We arrived at 12:00 and did not get into our room until almost 3 p.m., but that IS the check in time! We ate, drank, and swam until it was ready! We had back massages on the beach of a Caribbean island! We snorkeled, kayaked, and enjoyed sunsets on the beach. We also visited Coba & Tulum Mayan ruins on a tour, and rented a car to go to town and see some of the island (cars are expensive by U.S. standards--$61.U.S. per day). This is a good "family" resort, with lots of entertainment for kids. My husband and I went without kids, but next time, I will definitely feel comfortable taking them. If being pampered in a luxury resort IS your vacation, you probably will NOT be happy here. But if you want an all-inclusive place to stay while on vacation, this is a good value. As for speed, if you relax and keep in mind that you are on vacation--no appointments to keep, you will have a good time. If you "want it yesterday," you might consider vacationing in New York.

All prior complaints on service and slowness are valid for the Reef Club --- however as mentioned, the suites are amazing! The regular hotel rooms are only good for the budget. Suites = Hot tubs on balcony and plenty of room to spread out. Beaches, pools and kayaking are wonderful. The snorkeling tours often drop off groups at the reef/beach by the resort - so you KNOW it is good snorkeling. As for the slow check-in, it is a guarantee - but it is simply the Mexican way of life, just bring your swimsuit to change into when you arrive - grab a free cerveza and chill out. If you want strong drinks, simply tip the bartenders well on your first day = all week will become a blur. Do try to venture off the resort property to check out the local scene, bargain shopping, beaches, bars, 4-wheeling, horseback riding, scuba diving, etc. Have a great trip -- I'm going back for my 4th time this summer.
