This was an amazing hotel. We went with Thomson Platinum ,we were always well looked after by the staff at the hotel, the views were incredible from the balcony. The weather was very hot July 06. All the food was lovely, lot of choice. Had great nights out too. Will go back to Riu Cancun!!

My husband and I went to Riu Cancun hotel for our honeymoon in August of 2005 and we absolutely loved every minute of it. The only down fall was that we requested a king bed and got two doubles pushed together... for a honeymoon... ya, that didn't work so well *smiles* We are now booking our first anniversary trip and are going back to where we know we will have a great experience and be able to relax and enjoy ourselves.

Excellent hotel! We stayed at Riu Cancun for my 40th birthday, and enjoyed every second of it. I have read the reviews of the people who did not rate the hotel and service and all I can say is we had excellent service and did not have to tip every time we wanted a drink, a friendly smile was enough. And we never had to wait for the waiters to take our order, Food was fantastic, Hotel very clean, staff very friendly. We went September 05 I would recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of going to Cancun. We will definitely visit again.

The Riu Cancun was amazing! The hot tubs were just warm and the pools were all cold except for one. The food was really good. We had a room on the 3 floor but we went up to the 15 floor and the view was AMAZING! We heard if you asked for a room on the 15th floor the staff would give you one. If you need to call to the US or Canada buy a phone card in the lobby and use the payphones outside because you have to pay $4 to get connected inside the hotel. There is a mall across the street. If you plan on getting your hair braided, go to the flea market or get it done by one of the people on the beach with braided heads in their hands, they charge half the price of the salon. The Japanese restaurant was ok, too much raw fish; the Brazilian was good but we were so full that we left early; so if you ever plan to go there for dinner barely eat lunch. The best drinks were at the bar that's near the side exit of the hotel. Definitely coming back!

We stayed at the Riu Cancun for 14 days in July 05. The hotel was excellent, really immaculate and the service was great. The staff worked really hard at making the holiday enjoyable. The food was good but after two weeks was a bit repetitive. Room was excellent and really comfortable. The only two draw backs from our holiday were:- . Hurricane Emily! The holiday reps... don’t book with Thomsons, the reps were useless!

We just had a vacation with Riu Cancun at the begin of July. From the time we arrived until we left we where treated like royalty. It was our 25 wedding anniversary; we where given a beautiful room at the 11th floor, the view was fantastic. Staff was the best; the assistant manager at the hotel was great, always a smile and took the time to speak with us. Beach was lovely; food no complaints; entertainment was very, very good. We did not have to order to the bar staff: when they saw us coming brought us drinks. Champagne was delivered to our room with a basket of fruit on our anniversary, which was very nice. Thank you to all the staff who made our vacation so very nice.

I stayed in the Riu Cancun last year at Spring Break. The hotel was what made our holiday the best ever so far. This hotel is a perfect example of how an all-inclusive holiday should be. The only bad thing is that it has spoiled me for any hotel that I now stay in because they just cant match this resort.

Our stay at the Riu was terrible. The food was lousy, the service was ok as long as you tipped. I couldn’t believe at an all-inclusive top-notch place like this I’m seeing people in the elevators walking around with irons and ironing boards. I thought we were in Mexico. Give me a break. Never again. Don't go there.

I recently visited the Riu Cancun with my girlfriend and my 2-year-old daughter. The hotel is great, very clean and well presented. The staff couldn't be any more helpful as well. As soon as we got there the reception upgraded us to a Junior suite because of our daughter. The room was fantastic, although the bed was a bit hard. View from balcony was breath-taking. Room was cleaned and mini bar stocked daily. Pools were very well maintained. Food was great with more choice than you can imagine. Everything was free unlike a lot of European All Inclusive holidays. Plenty for children to do as well. Pool bar was always busy and did have a lot of --18-30-- type people but other pools were quieter. If you go make time to go to the solarium which is on the roof of the smaller building, this is a real sun trap. The other reviews about this not being a 5* hotel are absolute rubbish, it is one of the best in Cancun. All in all an excellent holiday and fantastic resort. I would definitely visit again.

My best friend and I stayed at Riu Cancun for spring break 2005 and had the best time out of all our friends. We absolutely love this hotel! It was very close to all the downtown clubs (The City, Bulldog, etc.), had good food all the time, had a great entertainment staff, and had free drinks whenever you wanted them. We had a blast! I highly recommend this hotel, especially to spring breakers as the staff really makes an effort to accommodate to you.

(Week of stay: Apr 30 - May 7, 2005) The Riu Cancun was wonderful. You could lay out in the sun or join the volleyball game in the main pool. There was an amazing entertainment staff who did everything they could to get you involved and make your stay fun without out being annoying about it. They would go out each night with a bus of guests and get all who went into the clubs VIP. The shows in --La Fiesta-- each night were outstanding. Food was good although repetitive. The Japanese restaurant was wonderful. Great view, close to everything, very laid back, clean and relaxing. Only downside was the alcohol in the mixed beverages or lack there of. Tip: More alcohol=less trips to the bar (This is where the liquor dispensers in each room came in handy). But the Bar pool was great and staff was friendly. I purchased this trip for my Mother for Christmas so it was just the 2 of us this time but we will return next May with a group of friends and family.

This hotel was amazing! My boyfriend and I (both 21 years old) visited the Riu Cancun in March 2005 and had the time of our lives. The hotel staff was very friendly, and the hotel itself was always very clean. They pools were kept clean and the water temperature was just right. The ocean was warm, but a drawback was the rocks (nothing too major). The rooms were beautiful and all ocean-view. The beds were a little hard, but nothing too unreasonable. The staff cleaned the room every day, but only restocked the mini fridge every other day. The water pressure was excellent our entire stay. The food was only average. Two restaurants were buffet style, and two restaurants needed reservations. The reservation restaurants had excellent food! The nightlife was also amazing! There was bar hopping for those that love to party, or you could stay at the hotel and watch the nightly entertainment. At 11 pm, the disco opened up and that was a lot of fun too. Across the street from the hotel was a mall and flea market. Everything was very nice. I would definitely return to this hotel, and I would recommend it to anyone, of any age

Enjoyed our stay at Riu Cancun. Staff were very friendly. Good location near all the nightlife and shops if you want that sort of holiday, but the hotel has relaxed feel to it with soothing music being played around most bars. There is also a disco which plays good music and serves great cocktails. There was such a variety of food in the main buffet restaurant. We stayed in a standard room and it was lovely. Great views of the ocean. You can see the whole strip of Cancun from the 11th floor corridor. We are trying to go back this year as we enjoyed it so much.

The Positives… Great location walk to shopping and bars - Weather was great 80's and no humidity - Great view from our room, all rooms face the ocean - The hotel Riu Cancun was clean and the staff friendly - The Japanese and Brazilian restaurants were very good but you need reservations… Negatives… Water went off several times during the week - public rest rooms in the pool area were often flooded and not working - check-in process needs to be improved - front desk could be excellent to down right rude - If you want good service from your cocktail waiters you must tip them! - Don Juan restaurant, in quality and organization, was the equivalent of our daughter's dormitory cafeteria. The hotel was sold-out and they are really having growing pains and need to make some changes.

Date of stay: Jan. 14 - Jan. 21/05. To be fair, the hotel Riu Cancun was nice in appearance and clean. The food was horrible. My first night, I had an uncooked hamburger, the next day and uncooked meatball. I stuck to fruits, pizza and desert the rest of the trip to be safe. The week we went was unseasonably cool and there is no heat in the hotel. The hot tub was connected to the main pool - not hot. The other hot tub we found had no water in it - for quite some time evidently from the discoloration of it. The pool and beach was deserted by 3 pm due to no sun - shadowed by hotel. We had a pool/ocean view, which was pretty much dead past 6pm - I got to know the schedule and routine of a stray black cat quite well. Be sure to tip the cocktail waitress the first time as she may ignore you the rest of the trip. The hotel --courtesy-- phone had a $1usd charge per local call. Our request for late check out was denied due to --overbooking--. Our junior suite room was nothing special. The room had a musty/smoky odor to it. I found mold/mildew growing on the ceiling above the shower. The bar of soap was tiny - not much bigger than a matchbook. The King bed was hard like a rock and very uncomfortable. Toilet got backed up - was fixed 2 hours later, then happened again on final day - nobody showed up. My family and I were very happy to get home to minus 30 C weather and snow.

I spent 8 days with family at Riu Cancun Dec.2004 and it was great. Level of entertainment was kind of low, and guys were trying to make it up by being overly loud. It was offered a Brazilian restaurant as optional place to eat in the hotel, but actually that was not real option. The place was always half empty and they still not allow people to book it, or use it what made a number of people angry day after day. But overall the staff was great, all of the services (other than mentioned) exceptional. I hope that they will do an additional small afford to make this place with no flaws, as they are almost there. I congratulate all of the staff and management, and thank you.

My husband and I spent our 25th Wedding Anniversary at the Riu Cancun, had the best time! Good food and service. Our in-room-bar was always stocked and our room cleaned to perfection, the maid made animals out of the towels. The hotel is so pretty and clean, someone is always cleaning. The activities are fun and the staff is nice. We had such a nice view of the ocean too. You can't go wrong here! So close to the nightlife, no need for a car! Don't forget to swim with the Dolphins! Enjoy! We will be back!!

We stayed in June for a week in all inclusive at Riu Cancun. The activities and staff are exceptional. The view was great and there was any kind of food you could want. You can also get discounts on bar hopping each night if you’re into that. An A++

Stayed at Riu Cancun hotel in July 2004. There was a group of us and could not have asked for anything better - been to Cancun several times before and this hotel beats all the food, staff, entertainment, beach. Everything was right there, never had to leave resort but had excellent location - shopping mall right across the street - we will definitely go back next year!

It was the best holiday we had ever. Nobody can beat it the food, entertainment and everything else at Riu Cancun. It was great. We hope to come back next year.

Riu Cancun is a great Hotel. Super food. Helpful staff. Unfortunately, poor security. I lost my t-shirt near the pool. And my daughter lost her top too. The hotel could not help!

The stay at Riu Cancun was great! Lots of good shows a very perfect beach...most disappointing when we were checking out...very sad… I will never go to this hotel again (something very insulting happened there and all the security guards where around us when we checked out 15 minutes late due to the counter) they even threatened to take away our passports...

The time at Riu Cancun is absolutely incredible! I couldn't have asked for a better stay. From the staff to the hotel itself, I've never seen anything like it! I recommend that every stay in Cancun should be at the Riu Cancun!

Loved it! Riu Cancun and Cancun Mexico sure know how to welcome and treat their guest. Our stay was excellent. The worst part of our trip was leaving. We plan to return and bring our teenage boys, and a few close friends.

The stay at Riu Cancun was generally ok until check out. During our stay we requested a second key, a $20usd deposit was required. This deposit was given, however upon check-out the deposit was refused to be returned. Therefore I kept the key. This makes me wonder how many others this has happened to, and how many keys are out there, because there is no night lock or chain on the doors, anyone with a key can enter any room. The most upsetting thing was that the general manager Oswald Ponette, and all other managers refused to take any calls from me after I said that I had a problem. I am still waiting to hear from someone so as I can find out how to return the key. A very disappointing end to a general ok stay

Loved the Riu Cancun! Everyone is so friendly. The grounds are beautiful. The pools and the swim up bar and all the daily activities were a lot of fun. The room was on the small side but who stays in the room. Perfect location.
