This property is located on the Yucatan peninsula, 3 km from Playa del Carmen, in the Playacar development with an 18 hole golf course. The construction exists of a main building and several 3 story bungalows right on the front line of the beach. The hotel Riu Playacar offers boutique/kiosk, 2 fresh water pools, children's pool, free Jacuzzi, free loungers, towels and sun umbrellas by the pool and beach, solarium-terrace, children's playground and several bars and restaurants.

All 396 rooms have shower/WC, hairdryer, telephone, air-conditioning, fan, mini bar, alcohol dispenser, Satellite TV, safe, balcony or terrace.

Sports and activities:
* Ping-Pong, work out, gym, 1 introductory scuba diving lesson in the pool, 2 lighted hard-surface tennis courts, volleyball, * Windsurfing, sailing, kayaks, body board and snorkel gear

Entertainment program:
* Daytime entertainment program for adults and for children from 4 to 12 years of age (seven times a week), * Live music (three times a week), * Shows and Riu Evening Program (several times a week), Entrance and drinks at "La Espuela" Disco (Riu Yucatan, open 6 nights a week) and at "La Piñata" Disco (Riu Tequila, open every night).

All Inclusive features all meals and snacks:

I was at the Playacar during Hurricane Emily on July 18,2005 and I loved the place so much, I returned in August. The Hotel owners made the best decision of all when they told the management not to evacuate us. All the Riu's did the same. That meant only one thing, our vacation was not ruined. We enjoyed the rest of our vacation 24 hrs after the storm past. At all times, we felt secure,(it was especially important for a first hurricane)and the clean-up went extremely fast. That's what I call being on top of things. I returned in August and quickly made friends for life. The staff went out of their way to insure our safety. These people are incredible. If you want to be treated like royalty, go to the Riu Playacar.

Spent the week between Christmas and New Years at the RIU Playacar. We had a great time. Good food at the buffet, so many different selections. New Year's Eve dinner was exceptional! A very large resort, but plenty of loungers on the beach and at the pool. We had a great stay and plan on going to other RIUs.

Bad food, watered down drinks, dirty rooms and bed linens, filthy pool, I have slept on slabs of granite softer than the beds at Riu Playacar. Actually looked into finding a flight out early! Very expensive mini mall across the street, but other than that nothing else to do unless of course you wanted to brave the rapids of the beach at the Riu. Terrible place would NOT recommend it to any sane person thinking of traveling there.
