No oceanfront rooms - can't hear or see the ocean. Rooms are up to a mile inland and you have to ride 2 shuttles to get to the beach. Some times would take 45 mins. in the heat and swatting at mosquitoes to make the trip to the beach. Nothing nice to say about this place other than it’s a rip-off!

I think Brenda has the wrong hotel named in her review. The Royal Resorts (Mayan, Sands, Caribbean, Islander and Club Internacional) have no rooms that are 1 mile from the ocean and no shuttles to get to the ocean. They have shuttles to get from one resort to another. They are all oceanfront resorts. They are all 5 star resorts and deservedly so.

We loved the hotel! It was so much fun. We had a great OCEAN VIEW ROOM. The beach was so nice and beautiful, we swam all day. I would love to go back in a heartbeat. I would NEVER forget my stay at the Royal Mayan.

Our room was 1 mile from the beach. We had to ride 2 golf cart or van type shuttles to and from the beach. The roundtrip took almost an hour. While you're waiting for the shuttles the mosquitoes are biting! You have to have OFF spray at this resort! No ocean view rooms, no balconies and you can't swim at the beach because of the reef. The positive is good restaurant food and walk up the island about a mile and find large shells everywhere. Other than that forget this place!

My husband and I just came back from 7 glorious days at the Royal Mayan. The accommodations, location and especially the staff could not have been better! We were thrilled and would definitely plan a return trip!

Great pool, breakfast, and people at Royal Mayan. They are so generous there that from July-August they let visitors watch the Sea turtles come to lay their eggs, but no flash photography
