Villas Chimay is a small paradise with cozy cabanas (bungalows) and a traditional palapa style restaurant. This style is traditional to the Mayan people using the natural resource of palm leafs to form the roof giving protection from the heat. Villas Chimay is an idyllic oasis located one kilometer west of Holbox village and it is situated on the edge of a beautiful white sandy beach in a tropical garden of one hectare filled with indigenous trees including coconut palms, chit palms, agaves, sea grapes, mangroves and banana. Holbox Island is located two hours from Cancun on the northeast of the Yucatan Peninsula where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean Sea. The hotel is absolutely beautiful however the two who own it are far less than honest! We arrived to a new country and had no electricity the first night, we were not even offered a candle!! and no fan on a very muggy august night. When we told the couple we were leaving to find a hotel that had electricity they acted like we were too materialistic and told us there was a possibility the power would be back on the next day. I’m sorry but when I go on a vacation -even to a small island like Holbox- i expect to be treated as a guest in whatever hotel I choose. Not be lied to and treated like an inconvenience! I found another hotel and loved the rest of my stay on Holbox, but I would not recommend Villas Chimay to my worst enemy!
