Villas Chimay is a small paradise with cozy cabanas (bungalows) and a traditional palapa style restaurant. This style is traditional to the Mayan people using the natural resource of palm leafs to form the roof giving protection from the heat. Villas Chimay is an idyllic oasis located one kilometer west of Holbox village and it is situated on the edge of a beautiful white sandy beach in a tropical garden of one hectare filled with indigenous trees including coconut palms, chit palms, agaves, sea grapes, mangroves and banana. Tranquil and inviting, it is a place to linger and rest your soul.

A place to relax, to refresh yourself in the blue sea, to experience unforgettable sunsets and to enjoy good food and a nice drink. It is the perfect place for romance and relaxation.

The hotel has its own solar and wind energy system, collection and use of rainwater and ecological wastewater system. Today, alternative tourism is the most exciting, relaxing and original way of modern traveling. In this sphere, Villas Chimay is the pioneer in Holbox and is still the most unique. Villas Chimay rents kayaks, golf carts, snorkeling equipment, aqua-fit-belts and organizes tours by boat, kayak, walking in the jungle, cave tour and fishing tours.

Holbox Island is located two hours from Cancun on the northeast of the Yucatan Peninsula where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean Sea. On the 35 kilometer long and half -kilometer wide island, there is only one village called Holbox. The village roads are sandy and peaceful giving the village a very special character and inviting you to walk barefoot. This tiny island is a panorama of wild, mysterious scenery and color contrasts (jade, turquoise and ochre). The islanders depend on fishing for their living and are a very cheerful, hospitable and warm-hearted people.

A lovely little eco hotel, with one cabana and four rooms in a large building to rent - direct at the water. The place is lovingly taken care of by a Swiss woman. The earlier comments regarding electricity are from someone who clearly does not know how Mexico works - everyone is always trying to fix things, like electricity, and it is reasonable of the hostess to assume that it may be back the next day. We had a marvelous relaxing time at this place, directly at the water, a mile outside of town, quiet and refreshing.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful however the two who own it are far less than honest! We arrived to a new country and had no electricity the first night, we were not even offered a candle!! and no fan on a very muggy august night. When we told the couple we were leaving to find a hotel that had electricity they acted like we were too materialistic and told us there was a possibility the power would be back on the next day. I’m sorry but when I go on a vacation -even to a small island like Holbox- i expect to be treated as a guest in whatever hotel I choose. Not be lied to and treated like an inconvenience! I found another hotel and loved the rest of my stay on Holbox, but I would not recommend Villas Chimay to my worst enemy!
